What's this all about?

Accents.ie is a simple game that tests your ability to identify accents from different parts of Ireland.

You can play here. Match the accent to the county. Get it right and you keep going. Get one wrong and it's game over.

If you have an Irish accent and would like to contribute to the game, add your recording here.

Everyone records the same phrase, one that highlights the nuances of the accent…

Right, I'm heading down the road for a pint of milk and three bags of ice. Do you want anything yourself?

Contributors also have the option to record a phrase that's unique to their county.

Ideally one that won't make their granny blush!

As we collect more recordings, hopefully this site can become an online museum of Irish accents, highlighting the variety of accents and unique turns of phrase in our mad little country.

A few ideas for future versions of the site…

• Different levels to the game (eg. easy mode = the strongest and most obvious accents).
• Multiple choice bonus round: pick the specific town an accent is from.
• A page for every county, with all accent recordings and local phrases in one place.
• An international version of the game. Would you be able to tell an Aussie accent from a Kiwi accent?
